About the Community Information and Referral Centre
The goal of the Community Information
and Referral Centre, a program of the Lakehead Social Planning Council
since 1983, is to provide the community with information it can use to
make informed decisions about the options available to them.
CIRC is a non-profit organization and has been operational since 1983.
As an accredited member of InformOntario serving the community of Thunder
Bay and district. CIRC is a critical component of the social service infrastructure.
It’s role is to collect, maintain and manage a comprehensive database
of available services and through our telephone help line, offer assistance
to individuals, families, and agencies in connecting to the services they
need.
Information and referral is the process of helping people to understand
their problems and make informed decisions regarding possible solutions.
Information and Referral programs are the traditional point of contact
for people in the community who require information about or linkage with
human service providers.
Our computerized database contains information on human, social and community
programs delivered by all levels of government, health programs, legal
services, counseling, and coordinate access to information for anyone needing
a link.
