The year 2002 has proved to be a financially challenging one for LSPC. The
organization has closed the year with a deficit.
One of the more significant on-going issues is how to fund core operations.
While in the past, the organization has been successful in meeting core operational
expenses through fund-raising; this is becoming more difficult given the
competition for donated funds.
A Trillium Foundation grant has been secured by LSPC to address this. The
funding provides a vehicle to develop a marketing plan to target potential
new donors and partners.
The projects undertaken by LSPC continue to provide re-imbursement
of administrative time and services provided to the projects. The projects
provide some financial
support, and are integral to the achievement of LSPC’s strategic
goals.
During the year, through the Urban Cap and Alternet projects, computers
were made available to twenty-six different project sites to provide free
access to anyone who requires it. While the projects required a contribution
from LSPC of approximately $13,700, they were important projects that fit
the mandate of the organization. Not investing in these critical projects
may have resulted in avoiding a deficit; but twenty-six sites, and countless
individuals may have been poorer for it.
I have enjoyed this past year. It has been my good fortune to meet and work
with a dedicated team of staff, volunteers and board members.
The team is in place, and revenue-generating strategies are being developed.
I am looking forward to another rewarding and successful year.
Respectfully submitted,
Julie Campbell
